Academic Year & Curriculum
One academic year is composed of two semesters (Fall and Spring)
- Fall Semester: Oct 1st to March 31st
- Spring Semester: April 1st to September 30th
The Global 30 International Programs is a four-year degree program. In the first year, in addition to the Japanese language classes, students are mainly required to take Common Basic Courses and Basics Courses for Specialized Fields. From the second year onwards, students take many specialized courses and in the fourth year they work on their graduation research and thesis.
Aiming to produce well-rounded graduates capable of independent and creative thinking, the Liberal Arts and Sciences program provides comprehensive education in a wide range of subjects for students from all different majors.
1. Course Categories
Liberal Arts and Sciences Courses at Nagoya University are divided into Common Basic Courses, Liberal Arts Courses, and Basics Courses for Specialized Fields. The Common Basic Courses and Liberal Arts Courses are managed by the Institute of Liberal Arts and Sciences (ILAS) Administration Office whereas the Basics Courses for Specialized Fields are managed by individual Schools.
Liberal Arts and Sciences courses are subdivided based on field, purpose, eligible students, and several other conditions. The course categories are listed in the following table.

Note: The Course Codes of courses offered to the G30 students are marked with the label [G30]. Courses are divided into three sub-categories: Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Interdisciplinary/Integrated Arts and Sciences. Students can specify which courses they should take according to their department. Some courses (including some undergraduate specialized courses that were previously designated as "open courses") are to be taken in the 3rd and 4th years of undergraduate school, after achieving a prerequisite level of specialized study.

- Japanese Language Education
- Students of the G30 Programs are required to receive Japanese language education after the enrollment. Intensive Japanese classes are provided to improve students' Japanese proficiencies to the level necessary for business and daily life. Based on an internal placement test, students take appropriate classes according to their proficiency level ranging from beginner to advanced . G30 Japanese language courses are also available to G30 graduate students, faculty members, and researchers, except for the 1st period courses. - Remedial Mathematics (Class Materials)
- This course is a companion course to Calculus I. It aims to help students with little or no precalculus knowledge to master the basic calculus material in preparation for the more advanced course of Calculus I. This is done by reviewing high school mathematics.
